Does therapist size for Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy matter?

Not size or weight, per se, but it's more a matter of strength and flexibility. I've had 200 pound people in class who have been strong as a bull and did well, yet others who weigh 130 and have not enough strength to pull up their weight.

Can you get on and off a 24" and 29" stool with ease? Are you able to walk delicately on the massage table without disturbing your client?

Now, advanced ashiatsu, using 2 footed strokes, is another gig entirely. You do need to have both core and upper body strength to dismount gracefully off your client's triceps, QLs, etc. Two footed strokes are recommended for clients who weigh AT LEAST 50 or more pounds than you do. So if you're working on women most of the time, you don't even need to take the 2 footed advanced ashiatsu class.

I offer Deepfeet 2 (Advanced Ashiatsu) only once per year, and the next one is in August.

Check the online calendar on my website to get the current Ashiatsu and Bamboo-fusion training schedule. August is usually a slow month for therapists, so why not learn something new? Just because it's hot out doesn't mean that your clients will not want the delicious warmth of bamboo tools to knead their sore muscles.

Looks as though my June Ashiatsu Barefoot Basics class is going to fill again. There are only 3 spots remaining for therapists to get their massage continuing education credits, and it's only April. You can sign up online here at www.affinitymassages.com if you want to learn how to do massage with your feet!

And on a side note, advanced ashiatsu class is beginning to fill for August. Again, you can sign up for that class online!

Finally, I seem to have the bug worked out for my payments online for our Barefoot Basics Ashiatsu class. You can register online for Barefoot Basics (all posterior work), Anterior/Side-lying, Ashi-Thai and Advanced Ashiatsu.

August is the only time this year I will be offering advanced Ashiatsu, and I've already had a few inquiries about the class.

Since summer is a slow time for many massage therapists, why not take advantage of that and learn some new strokes?

Running in the Flying Pig marathon? Try an ashiatsu barefoot massage or an Ashi-Thai stretching session afterwards! Both modalities are PERFECT for loosening up those tremendously tight muscles that marathoners have after running such long distances.

Hoping that it'll be a beautiful day for the run. Remember last year's run? It was a monsoon! I saw some really ugly feet after that one.

Just added: a new Ashiatsu Advanced (formerly Deepfeet 2) class! It's scheduled for August 19-21. Take advantage of your slow massage season and learn some new strokes! Great for those therapists who really need to sink their whole weight onto their big clients!
